Just to make you aware if you are not known to the fact, Top Gun: Maverick is the follow-up to Top Gun, the 1986 military drama film.
The first movie featured the adventures of Nick Bradshaw and Pete Mitchell, even though you might know them better by Goose and Maverick—their Navy call signs.
Paramount might have dubbed the next part Top Guns (plural) that was the initial name of the first movie before it was altered. But Tom Cruise disclosed a few years back that the next movie might be dubbed after his character.

Sadly, the next part has since been postponed a complete year and is now projected to come to cinemas on June 26, 2020. It seems that, the additional time offers the filmmakers the chance to work out the logistics of showing flight scenes with new planes and technology.
Production began in May last year with Cruise announcing the event on Twitter and, based on filming pics, he seems to have aged barely a day since the first film.

Top Gun Maverick 2020 Cast
It has been over 3 decades since they faced off to be the best of the best, fighting for the “Top Gun” title in Miramar, San Diego at the US Navy Fighter Weapons School. But Top Gun 2 will certainly see rivals Iceman (Val Kilmer) and Maverick (Cruise) come together.
At one point Kilmer appeared to verify that there might be a role for Gene Hackman (the otherwise retired actor) in the new movie. Sadly, that was quickly retracted as it turned out to be a spot of dream casting.
Anthony Edwards is not excluding a Ghost Goose twist, but at least if users do not get that, they do have Miles Teller featuring as Bradley Bradshaw, son of Goose.
One individual who will not be back from the first movie is Lt. Cmdr. Rick “Jester” Heatherly (Michael Ironside), with the actor placing it down to the fact that his relationship with Jerry Bruckheimer (the producer) actually is not good terms.
Glen Powell did ink the film in a mystery role after being speculated for the role of Goose’s son. Could he be the son of Maverick?

The movie will also feature Jennifer Connelly as the female lead of the film, playing a single mother who manages a local bar close to the Navy base. She will be joined by Ed Harris and Jon Hamm, even though details on their characters are being kept a secret.
And while we do not know who Hamm is portraying, he has committed to the media that the film will be worth the wait.
